Moving the Needle with Sportscraft
We’re excited to announce that Sportscraft have partnered with Moving The Needle, an Australian movement of brands and their customers working together to drive change and reduce clothing waste. Moving The Needle’s goal is to reduce the amount of clothing Australians send to landfill by making clothing donation even easier. Selected Sportscraft stores are now accepting donations of clothing and textiles, so keep an eye out for the Moving The Needle donation bins next time you’re in store! Australians dispose of a massive 6,000 kilograms of textiles every 10 minutes – and it’s currently going straight to landfill. Our goal is to help Moving The Needle reduce the number of textiles in landfill by 20% by 2022.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CLOTHES AND TEXTILES YOU DONATE?
The donations go straight from our stores to Australian Red Cross who sort through all the donations. Clothes that are in great shape and still have plenty of life left in them are sold through their store networks, which in turn raises funds for their vital social programs across Australia. If a textile is not suitable for sale in a Red Cross Shop, Red Cross engages with third parties who support them by collecting these products from their stores and distribution centers. The third parties seek to extend the product life through selling or downcycling into rags.
